Greg Stephens - US131 Race Report
Stephens
Motorsports headed north this past weekend to US 131
Motorsports Park in Martin, MI for stop no.3 on the AMA
Dragbike Championship Series the "Spring Nationals".
After winning in Atlanta I was is 2nd place in Street
E.T. points and I was hoping for another great weekend!
The weekend started out pretty good on Saturday morning
as I qualified 9th in the Street Fighter class. First
round of Street E.T. race 1 I was out on my opponent by
a couple of bikes at the 1000ft mark so I rapped the
throttle a couple times to keep from breaking out and
allowed my opponent to catch me and beat me to the
stripe by 21 thousands! Sometimes a rider will make a
silly mistake and this one was for real a silly one! At
that point all I could do was hope for Sunday to be a
better day. Sunday morning was looking to be a good one
and I slid through first round of both classes with a
victory! I managed to keep both bikes in the race until
the quarter finals where I was against Andy Baumback in
Street Fighter. Andy is known for his great reaction
times and is always one of the toughest racers to beat.
Just as the tree activated my bike nugged me through the
lights and turned on the red bulb and gave Andy the win.
I came back to the lanes got on the other bike where I
was paired up with my long time friend Daniel Adkins in
Street E.T. It was a close race but Daniel caught me
right at the finish for the win. Although I didn't win
the race I gained some valuable points and actually
gained 8 points positions in Street Fighter on the ZX10!
Our next AMA Race is in Montgomery AL. on June 12-13 and
we are having issues with funding for our race team. I
am working 7 days a week to try to fund these races but
each race is a minimum of $800-$1000 and it is getting
extremely hard for me to do. If there is anything that
any of you can do to help out it would mean the world to
me and Kim. I know times are hard on your end also and
you are doing great things already to help us out and
that's part of the reason I hate to miss races and let
you down. If any of you know any one or any company that
could support us with help on the entry fees, fuel, or
lodging for these pro races please help me get in touch
with them. Kim and I have a passion for this sport and
it kills our souls to think that we are gonna have to
start missing races. I know there is someone out there
that needs advertising for their product, as well as a
great tax deduction and what better investment than
helping an up and coming simi pro racing team that would
rather race than sleep! Once again each and every one of
you mean the world to us and I am proud to represent
you. I'm so sorry to sound like a beggar but I love this
sport that much. |
