Born
September 9, 1979 in Cayce, South Carolina, David Jason Herron was
born into a motorcycling family. Jason’s dad, David Herron had
attended motorcycle drag races since he was a young man and passed
that passion onto Jason who has been at the drag races as long as he
can remember.
When Jason first started going to the races with his dad, David
raced a silver 1983 GS 1100E Suzuki dragbike. David eventually
worked his way up to Funnybike riding an alcohol turbo Kawasaki
until the mid 90’s. That’s about the same time that Jason started
racing on his Dad’s old GS 1100. Jason raced about a year and a half
until his football and his sister’s softball consumed too much time
for racing. After graduating from school Jason attended the
Installer Institute in Florida. After receiving his MECP
certification Jason worked in the car stereo field for 10 years.
It was involvement in the car stereo business that caused drag
racing competition to be replaced by sound competition. After
working for several years in the car stereo field Jason started a
car stereo branch inside his dad’s motorcycle shop, D&D Cycles. One
day a guy came into the shop and traded in a drag bike on a street
bike. The Herron family hadn’t been to a drag strip in five years so
they decided to take the trade-in to the track for a spin. Although
the bike ended up being pretty slow, it got the Herron family hooked
on going to the track again. Jason’s interest in car shows and sound
competition was flip-flopped and he got back into racing
motorcycles.
Jason took his ’99 Yamaha R1 street bike and converted it to race
trim and raced in Street ET and Pro ET in 2001 at his local track in
Darlington Dragway. In his first year back racing he won the track
championship at Darlington aboard his R1 and made it to the final
round in the IHRA Race of Champions. From there Jason started racing
Super Gas with Prostar and earned a top ten plate his first year
out. Over the next decade Jason earned a trophy case full of wins in
Super Street, Ultra Street, Super Gas, Pro ET, 5.60 and
Championships in Super Street and Super Gas with SEMDRA, a Class
Championships with Orangeburg Dragstrip and the 5.60 Class
Championship with MIROCK.

Today Jason races his
dad’s old GS 1100 after a complete rebuild which brought it up to a
Super Comp bike. It’s a bike that means a lot to Jason because not
only was it the first bike he ever raced, it is the same bike his
dad raced in the early 80’s. It’s had numerous looks and paint jobs,
but it’s the same ole bike and now a family heirloom. The Hayabasa
has been updated to a Real Street bike which is undergoing testing
currently hoping to debut with good results soon.

David still races a
Hayabusa from time to time but his focus is helping Jason at the
races. Jason said they have been back at racing for about 11 years
now and don’t see them losing interest any time soon. Watch for
little Presley Ann, who just turned a year old, to take to the track
one day since racing is in her blood too. Then she can remind her
dad of the day she learned to walk. Dad was around just long enough
to witness her first milestone, and then he was out the door to a
race. Yes, racing is a family business.
