I'm a female rider that has been riding motorcycles since I was 5 yrs old and just recently quit Road Racing to do Drag Racing. Up until the end of 2006 I've played around with dragracing for fun on my completely stock CBR929 (other than a custom red white and blue patriotic paint scheme) foot shifting, getting 10.2's and 10.3's.
Oct of 06 I purchased Lonnie Angel's brother's busa that was pretty much already set up for dragracing. It was lowered a little, extended alot, airshifter, stock motor and clutch with a small dry shot of nitrous and a PC map from RCC Turbo. My first day I was in low 10's... the second day I was in high 9's... Third day I was in mid 9's.. Fourth track day I was getting 9.2's ALL with NO spray. This closed out my 06 busa experience.
Over the winter with some helpful advice from Lonnie Angel - I made some of my own mods to change the bike from being set up for a 220lb rider to a 135lb rider. I changed out the rear sprocket, put on adjustable lowering links to lower the chasis a bit more, shortened up the wheelbase from 74' to 66' by putting on a shorter swingarm, had my forks cut to 1.5' of travel and put on an Ohlins Rear shock and HyperPro steering damper. I also installed Boost By Smiths Launch and Shift Light Indicator to help improve my timing, Canadian Mike's Billet Slave cover and new brake pads. When the 2007 season was ready to start I had new Ultra Soft Shinko Tires put on (as the old ones were quite trashed before I even got the bike but wanted to wait till after Winter to put on fresh rubber).
Beginning of 2007 season, I discovered I had tranny problems with the bike popping in and out of 2-3 gear keeping me from bettering my times. Once this was fixed and starting my spray with a small progressive shot I got 8.8's all day still with stock motor and stock clutch. Shortly after this I was told I needed to get a lock up put on to better my times. I installed a single stage lock up and set it up to feather my clutch just a hair off the line to loose the bog I was getting. I had it set up so I could just dump it and go. After a few short test and tune days we got it dialed in and was getting 8.7's and 8.6's. My 2007 season ended prematurily due to the engine cases cracking at US131 when we were getting ready to turn up the spray and try getting some 8.5's out of the stock motor. A freind of Lonnie's who replaced my bent shift fork and shaft did not apparently put the cases back together correctly causing this to happen. (according to what Richard @ RCC discovered when he took the motor out of my bike just before christmas)
Before I moved to the Chicago area, I ended the 2007 season in Michigan at Ubly Dragstrip with 4 First Place Wins in their Outlaw Street Drags Heads-up Class and 1 Second Place win. My 2007 season in Illinois consisted of more test and tune events with a couple Street ET Bracket Races which was hard to do because we were still in the stages of setting up the new lockup and my times were all over the place. However at DaGrove Dragway in WI I did manage to take several second place wins where I bracket raced against anything from cars to sleds. At the Osceola, IN event I took 3rd place against ALL Turbo Busa's in their Heads-up Grudge Match.
My plans were to take the stock motor as far as i could go before making any changes for the next season and with having done that I was ready to consider my options for my next winter project.
With the help of sponsorship from RCC Turbo my 2008 season plan is to go with his Ultra Turbo and change some other chasis setups to make it more along the lines of a true prostreet drag bike and to see 7's after dialing in the new MTC multistage lock up being put in. Richard will be doing all the motor work and tuning and part of the chasis changes and some I'll be doing once I get the bike back. The seat rails will be cut down, a new tank and subframe and tail section will be needed, an offset triple tree and clip ons are being put on which now requires a longer swingarm to be put on to give me the 68' wheelbase they want me to have. Also the front wheel will need to be changed out and battery moved to the front of the bike. I currently have chrome wheels on the bike and would like to swap them both out (especially since I need the 16" in the front for more clearance once the offset tree is installed) but money is a bit tight and I'm not sure I'll be able to do that with all the other expenses right now.
