Greg Stephens - Car Wars Race Report
Last
Saturday June 5th Stephens Motorsports traveled to our home track,
Mt Park Dragway for the running of their annual Car Wars event. This
was our first race that we have been able to make this year at our
home track and it turned out to be a great day! The day didn't look
like it was going to be very good as we noticed a bad miss in the
race bike when it came time for our first qualifying pass of the
day. After trying everything I had time to try to fix the miss I
finally gave up and decided to run it like it was. Surprisingly the
bike ran very consistently and with the help of my great reaction
times all night I captured win number 2 of the 2010 season! It felt
really great to get the win with a broken weapon. I don't know what
is wrong with the bike but the wife wants to leave it like it is and
not fix it, HaHa!! Thinking that the bike was going to let me down
every round brought out the best in me for sure, my worst light I
had all day in eliminations was a .043 ! Now for the bad news. Due
to lack of funds we will not be able to make the AMA Dragbike race
in Montgomery AL. this coming weekend. It will be the first AMA race
we've missed in two years but I just couldn't get the money
together. I will try to get you a win picture from last weekend as
soon as they post one. Thanks again for being such a great group of
sponsors! Talk to ya later!!

Greg Stephens - US131 Race Report
Stephens Motorsports headed north this past weekend to US 131
Motorsports Park in Martin, MI for stop no.3 on the AMA Dragbike
Championship Series the "Spring Nationals". After winning in
Atlanta I was is 2nd place in Street E.T points and I was hoping for
another great weekend! The weekend started out pretty good on
Saturday morning as I qualified 9th in the Street Fighter class.
First round of Street E.T race 1 I was out on my opponent by a
couple of bikes at the 1000ft mark so I rapped the throttle a couple
times to keep from breaking out and allowed my opponent to catch me
and beat me to the stripe by 21 thousands! Sometimes a rider will
make a silly mistake and this one was for real a silly one! At that
point all I could do was hope for Sunday to be a better day.Sunday
morning was looking to be a good one and I slid through first round
of both classes with a victory! I managed to keep both bikes in the
race until the quarter finals where I was against Andy Baumback in
Street Fighter. Andy is known for his great reaction times and is
always one of the toughest racers to beat. Just as the tree
activated my bike nugged me through the lights and turned on the red
bulb and gave Andy the win. I came back to the lanes got on the
other bike where I was paired up with my long time friend Daniel
Adkins in Street E.T. It was a close race but Daniel caught me right
at the finish for the win. Although I didn't win the race I gained
some valuable points and actually gained 8 points positions in
Street Fighter on the ZX10! Our next AMA Race is in Montgomery AL.
on June 12-13 and we are having issues with funding for our race
team. I am working 7 days a week to try to fund these races but each
race is a minimum of $800-$1000 and it is getting extremely hard for
me to do. If there is anything that any of you can do to help out it
would mean the world to me and Kim. I know times are hard on your
end also and you are doing great things already to help us out and
thats part of the reason I hate to miss races and let you down. If
any of you know any one or any company that could support us with
help on the entry fees, fuel, or lodging for these pro races please
help me get in touch with them. Kim and I have a passion for this
sport and it kills our souls to think that we are gonna have to
start missing races. I know there is someone out there that needs
advertising for their product, as well as a great tax deduction and
what better investment than helping an up and coming simi pro racing
team that would rather race than sleep! Once again each and every
one of you mean the world to us and I am proud to represent you. I'm
so sorry to sound like a beggar but I love this sport that much.

Greg Stephens - Atlanta Race Report

|
This past
weekend April 9-11 Stephens Motorsports headed South to
the great state of Georgia for race 2 of the 2010 AMA
Dragbike Championship Series at Atlanta Dragway. It was
nice and warm and the weather looked great for the
entire weekend. After the weekend we had at Valdosta I
came into Atlanta hoping for a good showing. Both bikes
looked to be running good in testing on Friday so we
were excited to get the racing underway on Saturday. I
entered the ZX10 in the Pro E.T class for some extra
seat time and the little 600 in the Street E.T class,
which is one of the classes I am running with
championship hopes. First round of Pro E.T I drew a
tough one, multi time champion Andy Baumbach. The ZX10
ran cloce to the dial and I had a decent light but it
was no match for the .004 light Andy laid on me, and
Andy easily put me on the trailer. Saturdays Street E.T
race was one to remember. "The little 600 that could"
and I had a super day going seven hard rounds
against some of AMA's toughest riders for the race win!
I couldn't believe it! I didn't have the best light in
every round and the bike didn't always run right on the
dial but somehow I had pulled off a victory!! Sunday
morning came with confidence that it would be another
great day. First round of Street Fighter on the ZX10 I
left the starting line with a 5 tenths advantage and
stayed out in front until about the 1000 foot mark, then
when the bike went into 5th it missed just enough to let
my opponent around me and I was defeated by .030. It was
a very close race so I didn't beat myself up about the
loss. Sundays Street E.T race started out the same as
Saturdays race, and I started going rounds! I made it
down to 7 bikes which was the quarter finals were I
lifted of the throttle at the finish line to try to keep
from breaking out which in this case wasn't the smartest
thing to do, my opponent was able to sneak back around
me and beat me to the stripefor the victory by .016 (16
thousands)! All and all it was a great weekend and I was
happy to have a race win this early in the season.
Hopefully I will be writing you about many race wins
this season and if I'm really good maybe even a
championship at the end! So long for now and thanks
again for all of your support!!!

March 16th, 2010
Last
weekend March 5th- 7th Stephens Motorsports headed south to Valdosta Ga. the the
first AMA Dragbike race of the 2010 season, "The BikeWeek Nationals. The weekend
started off as the first race of the season usually does with minor problems
with the bikes and a major problem with the rider being a bit rusty on riding
skill from the time off and 25 lbs. heavier from all the holiday eating! After
two horrable time runs and two first round losses in Saturdays Street E.T and
Pro E.T classes it was time to qualify for Street Fighter. With a brand new set
of clutches in the bike and no burn in time I knew I would have problems
launching the bike off of the starting line. My first qualifying pass I ran a
9.64 on the 9.50 index which wasn't bad and would get me in but I knew with a
little adjustment on the clutch and a better launch I could do better. The
second round of
qualifying came around and this time the clutch felt a little better and the
rider was a little more focused on the task at hand. I left the line with a
career best .014 protree reaction time and ran a 9.54 lifting off the throttle
at the finish. That pass was good enough to qualify me in the no.11 spot in the
field of 39. Sunday morning came with hope that it would be a great race day but
it just wasn't in the cards for me. First round of Street Fighter the new
clutches bit me once more and pulled me through the beams on the starting line
to a -.120 RED light! After being in the final of the last two Street Fighter
races I was eliminated in round one and going home! Needless to say it wasn't a
good weekend but I'm looking forward to race two April 10-12 at Atlanta and I'm
sure I will be a little better prepared and will have my ducks in a row by then!
The worst part of having an off weekend like I had in Valdosta is letting my
sponsors down and with alittle luck and better focus maybe my next race report
will be a little more exciting to read! Thanks Again for all your help!

April 7th, 2009
This past weekend
April 3-6 Stephens Motorsports travled south to Commerce Ga. for stop number two
on the AMA Dragbike Championship Series ,the "MTC Elmer Trett
Nationals" at Atlanta Dragway. Saturday started out on a good note as I
qualified the Zx10 in the number 30 spot in "Street Fighter" with a
best to date 9.66 E.T. Although this wasn't a great qualifying spot it got me
solidly in the field and was one step closer to the class index of 9.50. In
Saturdays Pro E.T race I was eliminated first round by breakout when the bike
picked up 5 hundreds of a second over what it had ran earlier in the day in
qualifying. After the first round loss in Pro E.T I dialed the bike down for
first round of Street E.T and earned a first round win with a great reaction
time, however I was eliminated in round two as the bike decided to slow up once
more giving the win to my opponent due to failure to run my dial-in. Although my
night ended early on Saturday I came into the track on Sunday determined to do
well and win some rounds. Round one of Street Fighter I came up against the
number 20 qualifier who had made it into the field with a 9.59 E.T ,nearly a
tenth faster than my qualifying time so I knew I had to have a better reaction
time to make up for his better performing bike.As the tree came down I did my
job well and left on him with an .085 to his .163 light which gave me about a
length lead off the starting line. All was well until my bike failed to shift to
third at the 1/8 mile mark giving him the win by less than a foot at the finish.
After replacing the defective shift box that eliminated me from Street Fighter
it was on to Street E.T, race 2. I managed to go three round and made it to the
final 17 bikes in Street E.T before I was eliminated by Saturday's Street E.t
winner. I had a great .031 light and ran one above my dial but it was
no match for my opponents nearly perfect run! I was pleased with my over
all performance for the weekend but we need to work on the tune in both bikes as
well as work the bugs out of the ZX10. After race two I sit in 11th in Street
E.T points and 23rd in Street Fighter points .We will be running our
first IHRA points race this Saturday at Mt.Park Dragway and we hope to start out
the IHRA season with a win! Thanks for the support!!

March 12th, 2009
Stephens Motorsports traveled
south this past weekend to Valdosta Ga. for the "B&B Promotions Bike Week
Nationals", race 1 of the AMA Dragbike Championship Series. On Friday I got some
much needed test passes on the new ,never ridden ZX10r. I could tell right away
that this bike was gonna be a hand full off of the starting line due to the
great Kawasaki horsepower! It will take a little more seat time to get a handle
on the power this bike makes but by the first qualifying pass on Saturday
morning I was hoping to see a 9.50 E.T on the scoreboard. For the Street Fighter
class I qualified the ZX10 in the 41st position with a 9.80 pass at 143 MPH. It
wasn't a great starting position but it got me in the 64 bike field. The little
Yamaha went right back to running the same numbers it did at the last race of
the season last year running in the mid 10.50's. For Saturdays Pro E.T race I
entered the R6 and for more practice I entered the ZX10 in the Street E.T class.
I went three rounds in both classes on Saturday night and managed to make it to
the quarter finals on the R6 in the Pro E.T race were I turned on the red light
with a -.012 which took me out of the running for the win and the big paycheck
,however I did put a little change back in my pocket! I went out in Street E.T
on the new bike the same round just one round shy of getting in the money.
Sunday morning started out looking great as I won round one once again in Street
E.T on the little R6, and took out the #10 qualifier in round one in the Street
Fighter class on the ZX10. I lost in the second round of Street Fighter after
the bike got a little out of shape forcing me to roll out of the throttle just
enough to loose the race. My .011 reaction time in round one of Street E.T
earned me a bye run into the third round on the R6 where I lost due to my second
red light start of the weekend. All and all it was a great first race of the
season for Stephens Motorsports and should give me a great start in the points
standings in Street E.T. Over the two days of racing I raced three 2008 AMA
Dragbike world champions and was victorious over 2 out of the three so that was
something great that I will always remember about this first race of 2009! I
would like to thank you all for the support you have given me for the season and
I plan to give you some wins this year! Without sponsors like you I wouldn't be
able to compete at this level and you mean the world to my wife and I! My next
AMA race will be April 3-5 at Atlanta Dragway and I'm hoping to capture a win
there! Thank you so much!

November
10th, 2008
Due to lack of funding we didn't make it to the AMA finals at Valdosta, but
Stephens Motorsports
still had a good final race of the season! We traveled to MT. Park Dragway for
the "Ky.Horsepower.Com Fall Shootout". The weather was awful with
temps in the lower 40's which made for a very cold and long day. We fought hard
through a large field of bikes to capture our 5th win of the 2008 season! The
final round was one that I won't soon forget, I left the starting line with a
large lead but when I shifted to fourth at the 1000ft mark my bike died, I had
ran out of gas! To my surprise my opponent was having problems of his own and I
was able to coast thru and get the win by only inches! What a day! Thanks for
all your support over the season.

This past
weekend Stephens Motorsports and the Schnitz Racing Yamaha traveled
north to Norwalk Ohio for the AMA Dragbike "Fall Nationals".
First off in Saturday's Pro E.T. race we didn't make it very far getting
put out in round one due to a horrible reaction time, but Sunday morning
we arrived at the track determined to make it a good day. I went two
rounds in Pro E.T. before getting nudged out by Debbie Kneble. In the
Street E.T. race I had a really great day getting down to the quarter
finals were I went -.016 red to Street Fighter points leader Wayne
Robertson who also went red by -.005 but I left first which made
me the automatic looser. The bike was great all weekend and ran on the
numbers almost every round. And speaking of numbers, the great northern
air made the little 600 scream! I posted my best ever 10.50 E.T. as well
as my quickest MPH ever at 131.9! Well gotta go! Thanks Schnitz for
making this all possible for me!!

Stephens
Motorsports travled to Cleves Ohio this weekend to race at Edgewater
Sports Park in there NHRA Summit Super Series. It was a great day for
the Schnitz Racing Yamaha and at the end of the night we found ourselves
in the final round against an AMRA v-twin Victory hammer that had been
running his numbers all day as well as beating his oponents at the tree
in every round he ran. I was dialed a10.92 to his 11.00 so it was gonna
be almost a heads up race. When the tree came down it was all over but
the crying as he went -.049 red to my .006, but I didn't see my win
light so I patted him out on the big end running a 10.98 on my 10.92
capturing my 4th victory of the year! |

Well, I
have one thing to say about our trip to Indy this weekend for the
Thunder Nationals, SPECTACULAR!!!! I ran the Pro E/T race on Saturday
just to get some extra test passes and ended up getting in the money
making it to the quarter finals! Absolutely unbelievable that I did that
well against the box bikes. The Schnitz Yamaha ran the numbers all
day and I cut great lights all day long. Then on Sunday I entered
Pro E/t race 2 and went 3 rounds and came up just one round shy of
getting in the money again. I didn't do so well in street E/T on
Sunday, went -.011 red in round one. What a weekend!!

Well it
was another good weekend for Stephens Motorsports and the Schnitz Racing
Yamaha. Saturday we ran the "IHRA Summer Championships" at Mt. Park
Dragway in Clay City Ky. The bike was very consistent all day, we fought
our way to the final were I threw away a great run with a -.004 red
light! Oh well we still came out with a runner-up finish and won enough
cabbage to cover the weekend expences. This was the third final
round appearance in the last month and I just hope I can carry this
great momentum into Indy this coming weekend!
